Membership
Become a member for $5 a year
Telile is a community-owned society, and members are its owners. A membership costs just $5.00 a year and includes birthday and anniversary announcements on the Telile scroll.
Members support local television that no one else provides, and have a say in how the station is run. To join, drop into the office, call (902) 226-1928, or send us a message.
Why Telile matters
What a community station makes possible
Community focus
Telile's focus is on a community which receives little dedicated media coverage from other providers, yet coverage of news, culture and entertainment from the area remains of great interest to its residents. Because Telile's programming is carried by both Bell and Eastlink to viewers well beyond its local area, it also gives those looking to promote the area a way to reach individuals and organizations elsewhere.
Established not-for-profit
Telile has operated for thirty years in Richmond County with a solid reputation as a community-focused and community-engaged non-profit organization, of great benefit to local residents and organizations. Its non-profit status also allows it to receive grants and funding for a variety of capital and programming projects.
Broadcast licence
While a broadcast licence is not required for an online media presence, holding one opens doors. It has allowed Telile to take part in the federal Local Journalism Initiative, to earn royalties for its programming, and to explore partnerships with content creators through the Canadian Media Fund. As a Canadian broadcaster providing news content, Telile is also eligible for funding from the media fund negotiated between Google and the federal government.
Media gaming licence
Telile receives grant funding for capital and programming projects and to pay its journalists and summer students. It has always relied heavily, however, on its weekly televised, and now streamed, bingo to cover much of its operating costs. Telile's bingo remains highly popular with local residents and an important source of revenue for the organization.
Production facility
While owning a smart phone has made content creation accessible to countless people, there will always be a demand for well-produced and well-edited media. Whether Telile produces its own material in-studio or live and on the road, its capacity is also of interest to potential partners through the Canadian Media Fund. See the studio.
